Karlstor, one of the Munich historical gates

Karlstor is one of the remaining Munich historical gates. It is located between the Karlsplatz and the Neuhauserstrasse, one of the main shopping streets of Munich. The gate dates from the late 18th century and is nicely decorated with sculptures. Next to the tower there is a small fountain. This is however nothing compared to the enormous fountain on Karlsplatz which refreshes people in the summer and is a place for ice-skating in the winter.
