Typical French Bistro in Den Haag, Le Bistro de la Place

Chez Norbert or Le Bistro de la Place is located at “Plaats 27” in Den Haag. The Bistro interior is cosy and typical French. It almost looks like you are in an old Paris restaurant. The walls are covered with pictures of French personalities and the setting is so well done you believe you left The Netherlands. The staff addresses you in French and the menu is written in French, with a Dutch translation.

The executive chef Norbert Tillard together with Pierre Marchandier are trying to present you genuine French dishes with a young creative touch. They are proud to serve these French specialties and advertise it on their website as a “Tour de France”. On Friday and Saturday evenings the owner sings a few chansons supported by a piano player. It is exceptional, pleasant live music in a restaurant.

On October 25, the game season products have been added to the menu card. We really like game so our entrée was an easy decision. We had choice between boar, deer, partridge, pheasant and hare. Strangely enough, the four of us all decided to go for the hare served with red cabbage and pumpkin mash. As a starter we were less unanimous and went for a goose liver terrine and roaster lobster in fine herbs sabayon. Together with champagne, a good white and red wine the evening was a success. Before we walked back to the tram we completed our diner with a French digestive, a Mandarin Napoleon and a Calvados. What a night.

  8. All look gorgeous. Don't know about the hare though, my father used to have hare & rabbit when he was as a child when there was nothing much in the meat line. That was a very long time ago.
